When you walk into All My Exes, a new cocktail bar in Avondale that took over the former Oak Barrel Tavern space, you’ll see framed photographs of famous women — including Jennifer Lawrence and Sandra Oh — along one wall and a colorful floral mural on another. These interior design touches represent the leadership and ownership behind the space. Steph Sievers, owner, and Jen Jackson, bar manager, were formerly coworkers at Sullivan’s Fish Camp.
Both started in food and beverage at a young age and have settled into the hospitality industry in the Lowcountry. “It just happened that a lot of the talented people I knew were women, and I wanted to highlight that,” she added. “Some of the best bartenders I know are women holding it down behind the scenes. But still ownership and management can be male-dominated.
” The idea behind All My Exes was to provide a comfortable place for anyone, especially women, to hang out. Sievers wanted to create a casual space with really good cocktails; she gave the bar its name because she’s still friends with all of her exes. In fact, most have been by for a drink at the new spot.
