Seattle-based grocery chain PCC Community Markets boasts its own private label wines, much like Costco . Early last year, the co-op introduced a few signature Washington and Oregon whites and reds, and later expanded to include Old World wines. The nine bottles below (four from the Northwest, three from France, and two from Spain) can be found at all 15 PCC markets in the Seattle area.
Many seemed reasonably priced, at less than $15. But are they any good? I decided to try them out with Owen Bargreen, a certified Level 2 sommelier. 99 Owen: It’s Grenache blanc grapes from the Languedoc region of France . This possesses herbal and nutty tones on the palate alongside a good concentration of gooseberry and kiwi fruit flavors — nice texture. You can find better value, particularly from Rueda , in Spain .
