Wednesday, Switchbacks midfielder Yosuke Hanya said Saturday's contest against Orange County SC was a great time for the club to show the league that Colorado Springs could beat anyone. He backed up his statement Saturday in emphatic fashion. Hanya scored twice as the Switchbacks downed visiting Orange County 4-2 at Weidner Field.
Fellow forward Maalique Foster scored his first two goals of the season as well. Saturday marked the first time in 2024 Colorado Springs (6-5-2) scored four times in a contest and the club extended its unbeaten run to eight games. "I was just trying to score, especially up until this game I had only one goal.
So as a striker I wanted to score more goals," he said. He wasn't the only one with such ambitions. Foster entered Saturday's contest as the Switchbacks' assist leader but had yet to score a goal.
The Jamaican forward seemingly has had a near score in every match this season but his moment came in the 63rd minute. Colorado Springs entered the second half with a 1-0 lead thanks to a 19th minute strike from Hanya but Orange County forward Bryce Jamison flipped the script on the Switchbacks following intermission. Jamison struck in the 48th minute and then again in the 61st minute to give the visitors the lead.
"We had a scare right before halftime with a free header from a free kick and we warned the boys. We warned the boys for the second half and then we come out and we were very, very complacent to start the second half. Then we find ourselves.
