WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI – If it was your birthday, Theadra Fleming would make you a quilt. If you brought her fabric, she would make you a quilt. And if you happened to be the doctor who performed her back surgery, she would make you a quilt.
“Even with her arthritic fingers, she was always willing to go teach someone how to make a quilt, if that’s what they wanted to do,” said Lorna Fleming, Theadra’s sister. Theadra Fleming, 73, was found dead around 10:30 a.m.
May 20, according to Derrick Jackson, Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson. Police, attempting to check her welfare, found her buried in the backyard of her home in the 1300 block of Warner Street in Ypsilanti Township. Family had called police because they had not heard from Theadra for several days.
Lorna was told Theadra died of strangulation, she said. Her grandson has been charged with her murder. Lorna had been on a conference call with her nephew, Theadra’s son, when her sister’s body was discovered.
“You could just feel the horror and the stress and sadness in (Theadra’s son’s) voice,” Lorna said. “..
.He is horrified. I think he is just beyond horrified.
Everyone is just beyond horrified.” Lorna said her sister loved her dogs and her garden. Read more: Woman found buried in backyard was known for love of animals, neighbor says “She always had her curtains open, 6, 6:30 in the morning because she had nosy dogs,” Lorna said, laughing.
