Gildden-Ralston highlighted a week of softball which was not kind to all the Carroll Times Herald area teams. The Wildcats kept piling on runs against Alta-Aurelia to stay in the win column. While G-R was getting things moving, Coon Rapids-Bayard, IKM-Manning and South Central Calhoun experienced their own struggles.
There were some shining spots in each of the games, but the overall outcome was not an ideal way to start the season. Two innings was all the Glidden-Ralston softball team needed to take care of business on the road against Alta-Aurelia this past Tuesday in Alta. Although the Wildcats got on the board first by batting in a run in the second inning, the Warriors countered back to retake the lead in the bottom.
The first of G-R’s two explosive innings came shortly after. The Wildcats scored four runs in the top of the third to take a 5-2 lead. The Warriors battled back in the next two innings to tie the game up at five a piece.
Despite how close the game had been thus far, G-R blew the door off the contest by scoring nine runs in the top of the sixth inning. Even with Alta-Aurelia fighting back with four runs of its own, it was too little too late as G-R came out with the 14-11 win to move to 2-1 on the season and push the Warriors’ record to 1-4. Although 14 runs were batted in against the Warriors, the sole Wildcat to knock a ball over the fence was senior Elizabeth Lloyd.
The senior ended her day with one hit on three appearances, with that hit being her thr.
