Although we've seen many excellent looks from the WAGs at this year's Euros, the eyes of all true fashionistas have of course been on Gareth Southgate . Famously, Southgate emerged as a new style icon at the 2020 UEFA European Football Championship, with his elegant £65 Marks & Spencer waistcoat being just as talked about as on-pitch antics. The waistcoat, which offered manager chic on a budget, sold like hotcakes, and, as the 2024 Euros rolled around, Southgate fans began wondering what sort of style inspo he'd be bringing to the sidelines next.

Interestingly, rather than opt for another formal number, the 53-year-old has instead debuted a more relaxed £45 polo shirt , also from M&S , which he's seemingly worn it to every game so far. But what's behind this unexpected wardrobe shake-up, and does the stategic-minded England manager have a gameplay in mind? While his waistcoat meant business, Southgate's new top feels notably fresh and youthful. Given that those in the public eye rarely get dressed for events without thinking of the image they're projecting, it's interesting to think about what attributes of Southgate we're being shown as the tournament continues to ramp up.

So why has Southgate ditched his famous waistcoat? It feels like a very decisive choice, especially given that he was surely well aware of how he'd sparked such a craze back in 2021. Here to shed some light on the matter is award-winning personal stylist and fashion guru Lisa Talbot, a woman well-used to.
