The Whitehall softball team let a lead slip away and lost a heartbreaker to Pocono Mountain East in last season’s District 11 Class 5A championship game. The Zephyrs didn’t need to be reminded of that heading into Wednesday night’s district semifinal rematch against the Cardinals at Patriots Park in Allentown. Top-seeded Whitehall got revenge from last year in dominant fashion, needing just four innings to roll past Pocono Mountain East, 15-0.
“It’s revenge every game we play them,” Zephyrs first baseman Kate Yadush said. “We’re just glad we got it done.” “We didn’t even have to bring that up.
That was in the back of their minds all week,” Whitehall coach Jeff Vivian said of last year’s loss in the district final. “I didn’t really have to say anything. That was talked about among the group that was here last year.
They learned a lot last year, too. You don’t take anybody for granted. Everybody’s record in every game is 0-0.
It doesn’t matter what you’ve won. It doesn’t matter what your record was. Anybody can beat anybody at this time, especially in this league and this environment.
We’re conscious of that and we’re looking forward to Friday.” The Zephyrs will play third-seeded Southern Lehigh in the District 11 Class 5A championship game at 7 p.m.
Friday at Pates Park. The Spartans beat second-seeded East Stroudsburg South 9-3 in the first semifinal on Wednesday night. Whitehall sophomore pitcher Morgan Laub held the Cardinals to.
