I serve as mayor pro tempore of Winston-Salem. On the anniversary this week of Donald Trump and his allies overturning Roe v. Wade, I must speak out.
In the 1960s, knew someone that had an abortion. The procedure occurred at night and endangered her life. After seeing what girls and women experienced before Roe v.
Wade, I will do whatever it takes to never go back. Trump is attempting to strip back our rights and it is a slap in the face to me and the other women who marched to gain those rights. The abortion bans Trump and his allies brag about, as well as their shocking attacks on contraception and IVF, demonstrate their desire to control women.
Their actions are cruel and dangerous. Women all over North Carolina are at risk because of this ban. In our state, we are also facing a Black maternal health crisis.
Creating additional barriers to life-saving care will only exacerbate health inequities. People are also reading..
. I’ve fought this fight once and I will do it again. We will not let Trump and his MAGA allies regain power.
Our votes can and will make the difference in this critical election. We must reelect President Biden and Vice President Harris. They are ready, willing and able to protect Black maternal health and restore reproductive freedoms to North Carolinians.
