Kenichira: The tiger which spread panic in Kenichira village in Wayanad has finally been caged. The big cat was trapped at around 11 PM on Sunday, near the house of Sabu, a native of Pallithazhe. Earlier, an order was issued to dart the tiger upon sighting it.
A curfew was issued in the region taking people’s safety into consideration. The big cat is expected to be 10-years-old. The male tiger was identified as ‘Tholpetty 17’.
Last night, the big cat had first made its presence in the Maliyekkal area at around 9 PM. It had arrived at the very same cattle shed where it had earlier preyed on the cows. CCTV visuals are available.
Following the tiger’s appearance, a caged goat in the vicinity was later found dead as well. In the month of March, another tiger which terrorised the Appadu and Mylambadi areas of Meenangadi was trapped in a similar fashion inside a cage set up by the forest department. At that time, the big cat was caught inside the cage placed in the premises of the house of Kavungal native Kurien, at around 9:15 PM in the night.
Wayanad has been ravaged by constant man-animal conflicts causing widespread loss of lives and properties. Since long, the natives have been accusing the officials of not taking effective action, leaving their lifes in disarray..
