Janhvi Kapoor has been stealing the show with her promotional looks for ' Mr and Mrs Mahi ' which is set to release on May 31. From wearing a dress with miniature cricket balls to a Kanjivaram saree with cricket motifs hand-printed on it, Janhvi's promotional looks were in sync with the theme of the film. This is called method dressing but this surely isn't the first time one has seen it.
Remember Alia Bhatt wearing white sarees during the promotions of ' Gangubai Kathiawadi '? Or Vidya Balan during the promotions of ' Kahaani ' and ' The Dirty Picture '. Let's recall the times when actors opted for method dressing and analyse how it works for the movie. Stylist Sheetal Iqbal Varma who styled Alia Bhatt's look for 'Gangubai Kathiawadi' says that method dressing actually creates relatability with the audience, especially in the small towns.
The inspiration for the all-white look came from Hussain Zaidi's book, 'Mafia Queens Of Bombay'. "So there was this character Gangubai, he had mentioned in the book that he wore a lot of white with a lot of jewels like gold and diamonds. So keeping that in mind, we designed the entire character.
Also the way politicians wear white and the colour makes a statement. So, the inspiration for the look came from there. Later, during promotions, we extended majority of the character.
In some of the promotions, Alia was wearing the same sunglasses, a rose in her hair. It wasn't like a girl next door kind of vibe where she can even wear a summer dre.
