Behind a second-half brace by Daniel Gazdag, the visiting Philadelphia Union ended their six-match winless streak in resounding fashion, breezing past the 10-man New England Revolution 3-0 on Saturday. Julian Carranza also scored for Philadelphia (4-4-5, 17 points), which won for the first time since April 6 and remained unbeaten away from home (3-0-4). The Revs (2-9-1, 7 points), forced to play nearly 75 minutes plus stoppage time a man short after a Ryan Spaulding red card in the 14th minute, lost for the fifth time in six outings (1-5-0).
Philadelphia cashed in on its man advantage in the 38th minute through Carranza, as the Argentinian striker got his head to a perfect cross from Jack McGlynn and beat Aljaz Ivacic for his sixth goal of the season. The Revs nearly went back on level terms just seconds later, but a strike by Giacomo Vrioni was kept out by a diving Oliver Semmle. The Union goalkeeper later took away a near-post chance from Dylan Borrero as the hosts pushed for an equalizer despite playing a man down.
But the Union doubled their lead in the 47th minute. After Mikael Uhre's initial header hit the woodwork, Gazdag scored on the follow-up attempt, making it 2-0. Gazdag added his second of the night -- and team-high ninth of the season -- in the 80th minute, and that was more than enough for Philadelphia.
