UFC Fight Night in Louisville ended in controversial fashion after Nassourdine Imavov secured a standing TKO against crowd favorite Jared Cannonier. Referee Jason Herzog called a questionable early stoppage to the fight, prompting a chorus of boos from those in attendance. As the crowd at KFC Yum! Center in Louisville rained down “USA” chants, Cannonier connected on multiple heavy calf kicks in the first round.

But Imavov soon picked up the pressure down the stretch of Round 2, responding with a jab that knocked the American’s mouthpiece out, as well as a last-second combo that appeared to wobble him. Imavov continued to gain momentum in Round 3, landing a series of jabs. In the fourth round, he uncorked a powerful right hook that disturbed Cannonier’s equilibrium.

As the 40-year-old backtracked and attempted to regain his bearings, the frenchman continued to apply the pressure. Cannonier attempted to lean up against the fence to stay upright, but Herzog questionably called the fight off despite the fighter seemingly still standing under his own power.
