There’s a stunning little village between The Roaches and Tittesworth reservoir that most people don’t even realise is there. Meerbrook is a farming community that’s only amenities are a pub, a village hall and a church, but it’s a lot busier than you think. Despite there being hardly any properties in the quaint village, The Lazy Trout pub welcomes dozens of punters everyday.

Interestingly, most of the staff and visitors don’t live in Meerbrook themselves. Although I visited during the half-term holidays, I barely saw a person or car in the village, with the exception of pub-goers. As I drove through the village on its many nameless roads, I thought ‘where should I park?’.



Every street was a country lane and many were single-track without kerbs. I decided to leave my car at the pub. She said: “This is a lovely pub with a great atmosphere. “There’s a nice variety of families who’ve lived here a long time, especially because this is a farming community, and then some people move to the area from elsewhere because they like it here. Meerbrook has a good communit.
