The latest classic film to be given a new lease of life is reportedly 00s comedy-drama The Devil Wears Prada . Disney is working on a sequel of the hit movie 18 years later – and Emily Blunt and Meryl Streep have been convinced to reprise their roles as Miranda Priestly and Emily Charlton respectively. The Devil Wears Prada’s original screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna is also on board; however, Anne Hathaway, who played Miranda’s assistant Andy Sachs, is not thought to be involved in the project, according to Puck .

The publication reports the sequel could follow magazine editor Miranda struggling with the ongoing decline of traditional media sparring with Emily, who is now an executive at a luxury fashion group. Miranda desperately needs Emily’s company to pay for advertising in her magazine to ensure its survival. Disney declined to comment when approached by Puck.

Metro.co.uk has also reached out to the studio for comment.

The Devil Wears Prada director David Frankel previously spoke to Metro.co.uk about a sequel – and claimed it would never happen.

In 2022, he said: ‘There was a little bit of talk a couple of times – once after the movie was such a big hit 15 years ago. ‘We all got on a conference call to discuss it and it was easily decided that that was a terrible idea. ‘We had told this story, these characters were very complete in the way that they had appeared in this film and we had no imagination for where the story would go.
