Bali Mumba was a first team regular for Plymouth Argyle last season and there is every chance that will continue to be the case during the 2024/25 Championship campaign. The question for new head coach Wayne Rooney is what position will the 22-year-old be best suited to in terms of how he wants the Pilgrims to line-up and their style of play. Mumba, the £1 million club record signing on a four-year contract from Norwich City last July, was used in a number of different roles last term, starting off in a wide left attacking role in the 4-3-3 formation adopted by former manager Steven Schumacher for Argyle's return to the Championship after a 13-year absence.

It was a move designed to exploit the pace and directness of Mumba, who had showed an eye when he scored six goals during his highly successful season-long loan with the Pilgrims from Norwich in 2022/23. When Mumba waltzed through the Huddersfield Town defence to score one of Argyle's goals in their season-opening 3-1 win against Huddersfield Town at Home Park it appeared to be an inspired decision. However, he was not able to be a consistent and productive attacking threat for the Pilgrims, with his only other goal before the departure of Schumacher to Stoke City shortly before Christmas coming in the 3-3 draw at home to Middlesbrough in early November.
