I always recycle my plastic detergent bottles, but I never know what to do with dryer sheets and I’d like to cut down on my waste and impact on the environment. Any tips? Thanks! Rhonda Dear Rhonda: Here are some ways you can make every laundry day feel like Earth Day, one small switch at a time.

1. Reduce, recycle, repeat. Your empty plastic detergent jugs are recyclable in your curbside bin, yes.



But did you know there are options to reduce that packaging altogether? Zero Waste stores like Simply Bulk in Longmont provide refillable options — just bring a mason jar, old detergent jug, or whatever you’d like, and fill it again and again! There are also online companies that offer refill options through the mail. Recycling is a great way to reduce your impact, but skipping that plastic jug altogether is the best way to go. 2.

Ditch the dryer sheet. These little guys are plastic-based and are not recyclable or compostable. Instead, opt for a Zero Waste option! Check your local Zero Waste store or look online for wool dryer balls, which get the job done while being reusable and cute as heck.
