David Sullivan called it “an easy decision” following a recent visit to his high school alma mater, Steel-High. Sullivan is among the school’s most accomplished graduates. An undersized 5-foot-11, 155-pound wide receiver at the time of his graduation in 1968, Sullivan routed through the University of Virginia to the National Football League.

As a businessman, the former 1973 draft pick of the Cleveland Browns owned and sold multiple businesses throughout the Midwest. His philanthropy is well-documented, too, as Sullivan has a deep history of assisting programs, charities or organizations that share many of the same ideals that he so heavily values. Sullivan’s latest move is a six-figure check to Steel-High.

“I told [football coach] Andrew Erby that the decision we made to help out was an easy decision,” said Sullivan on Saturday. “The amount that my wife and I gave was $100,000. I talked with the superintendent of the school and, really, I want this to go to the athletic department, the Roller Athletic Foundation.

I trust those in charge to use the money in the best capacity.” On his recent visit, Sullivan got the chance to speak with the Rollers and share important moments and lessons during his high school days that carried through his life after football. “I had breakfast with Andrew and his sons before I decided to make the contribution.

I was really impressed with the humility. Very grounded,” said Sullivan, who played alongside coach Erby’s father .
