Numerous local athletes earned spots on top of the podium through the first two days of the three-day Class 1A-5A state track and field championships Thursday and Friday at Jefferson County Stadium. The action reached a fever pitch during Day 3. Saturday brought a full slate of finals events.

And with that came numerous other local state champions in addition to several strong showings in the overall team standings. Here’s a look at the top local highlights from Saturday’s action. Briggsdale Falcons Briggsdale junior Kaeden Gebauer was fifth in the 1A boys 200-meter dash with a time of 24.



06 seconds. Dayspring Christian Eagles Dayspring Christian senior Eboselulu Omofoma capped her stellar high school career in style. She finished the 2A girls 100-meter hurdles in 14.

24 seconds, breaking a meet record (14.50) set by Emily Hanna in 2006. She easily bested Swallows Charter Kaitlyn Pearson (15.

21), who was the runner-up. Omofoma defended her state title in the 100 hurdles, winning that title for the fourth consecutive time. Omofoma proceeded to win a second consecutive state title in girls triple jump with a mark of 35′ 11.

75′′. Sedgwick County sophomore Lainee Nein was second at 35′ 2.5′′.

Omofoma won state titles in all three of her individual events this week, bringing her career total to 11. She won the high jump title for the fourth time Thursday. Omofoma contributed to yet another state title, anchoring Dayspring’s first-place girls 1,600 relay team.
