Art comes in many forms. And Saint Thomas Aquinas High’s end-of-the-year Stroll Through the Arts Exhibition was certainly a display of a plethora of art forms. Recently held in the school’s commons area, students of art teacher Alyssa Arnold showcased their various works created over this past academic year.
Among the many paintings, one of my favorites was a colorful lineup of pastel macaroons arranged on a canvas, created by Art I student Caroline Beard. Although this piece had more of an Andy Warhol style, Caroline said she was most inspired this year by the work of Vincent van Gogh and her favorite project was a painting of her mom, which she created using the fashion of this famous artist. There was quite a bit of artistic photography included in this exhibition.
And one of the students with a huge presentation of unique photos was STA junior Konnor Burkes. Often seen carrying a camera around his neck, Konnor captured many expressions of his fellow students, which included silly, serious, and reverent moments, such as a photo focused on the praying hands of a classmate and an image of dance members practicing. Another form of art on display was the Art II photography magazine.
Of this new project started this year, instructor Ms. Alyssa Arnold said this magazine served as a keepsake for her students and included lessons on cover design. This art event also hosted a silent auction.
