Ms Waixel’s father, Nicholae, died about 15 years ago but her mother, Zina, has lived in the residence for longer than 60 years. In 1926, noted architect and former Royal Victorian Institute of Architects president Kingsley Anketell Henderson modernised the complex.
The apartment is located in a prime position. A spacious bedroom. Ms Waixel said her mother, who is downsizing, loved how light and airy the home was, plus its proximity to public transport and Acland St.
Zina also has many friends in the neighbourhood. “Just going down the street, people are very friendly and always said ‘hello’ to her, and if she struggled with her shopping, they would help,” Ms Waixel said. Her parents put carpet and wallpaper in the apartment after they moved in, altering it several times across the years.
