SOUTHFIELD – Despite scoring one more touchdown, the East came up short, falling to the West 13-12 in Saturday afternoon’s MHSFCA All-Star Game held at Lawrence Tech University. Behind quarterbacking from Dearborn’s Daniel Kent and West Bloomfield’s Reqez Nance, and a line of blockers that included Chippewa Valley’s Davont’a Love, the East All-Stars, trailing by seven, took most of the fourth quarter moving the chains on an extended drive. Nance had the biggest gain of the drive, a 34-yard keeper off play-action that got the East to within the red zone.

“My run, I’d say, that’s just what I do,” said Nance, who appeared to be battling a minor hand injury, but was still a danger throughout the day with his running ability out of the pocket. Aided by blocking from Love and South Lyon’s Ben Radley on the right side, Canton’s Devon Pettus got around the edge for a three-yard score to make it a one-point game with 31.1 seconds remaining.



Love was the closest receiver to Kent’s attempt on what would have been a go-ahead two-point conversion, but it was batted down by the West defense to preserve the win. The East All-Stars’ other TD came in similarly thrilling fashion to close out the first half. Kent, rolling to his right side out of the pocket, was hammered as he threw, but connected with a jumping Radley in the end zone for a 12-yard score with 5.
