Since opening its doors in August 2016, The Hackney Carriage has become a cherished part of Sidcup. The micropub at 165 Station Road stands out for its dedication to old-fashioned pub standards, earning it the title of Cider Pub of the Year in both 2017 and 2018. The Hackney Carriage was once a former school uniform shop, before being transformed into the pub, founded by owner Liz Twort.
Liz told the News Shopper: “We have had many newborn babies and puppies come along and also been responsible for a few match-making relationships. “We are very community-led and I have a fab team who give amazing customer service. “The pub is named after my husband’s profession as a black cab driver.
Many black cab drivers come in and like to share their interesting stories. “Both our bartenders are very friendly and the pub has been party to many people meeting and becoming firm friends.” The Hackney Carriage has garnered a loyal customer base with its impressive selection of over 20 ciders as well as a range of real ales, all sourced from small independent breweries.
Liz prides herself on creating a welcoming and relaxed environment and The Hackney Carriage enforces a no gambling, no music, and no mobile phone conversations policy. This is so that patrons can enjoy their drinks and conversations in a peaceful setting, reminiscent of traditional British pubs. The Hackney Carriage features contemporary furnishings, high seating, and two toilets, providing a more comfortable and st.
