Hun Sen, President of the Senate, is urging the Khmer Artists Association to help develop artististic skills and especially to train the children of artists. He suggested perhaps only this approach can ensure there will be no lack of artists to continue the Khmer creative heritage from their families in future. Mr Hun Sen made the comments yesterday during a courtesy call with a delegation from the Khmer Artists Association led by Mao Chamnan, President of the Khmer Artists Association, at the Prampi Makara Palace in Phnom Penh.
The former prime minister congratulated Mao Chamnan on her election as President of the Khmer Artists Association and welcomed the board members of the Khmer Artists Association and Minister of Culture and Fine Arts, Phoeurng Sackona, complementing them for their work to rebuild the association. He also asked the Khmer Artists Association to find any viable way to strengthen the role of artists over the long term, such as helping to train the children of artists, and help them to find jobs after graduation so they may apply their skills and training. “We want the Khmer Artists Association to train their children so that artists do not lack successors or supporters for the next generation.
I encourage the association to organise short training sessions for each skill, including the subject of professional ethics for them,” Mr Hun Sen said. Further, he encouraged the Ministry of Culture to consider recording the fashions popular during each generati.
