When it comes to her taste, Carpenter tells Rolling Stone she loves things that are “classic” but also “modern” and with a touch of humor. “I think my taste is a bit unpredictable sometimes,” she says. As for her inspiration on “ Espresso ” specifically, Carpenter said she felt like her song “Espresso” was modern but with touches of “those coffee shop, very saturated photos of women with big smiles and very corny phrases on it.
