We Will Rock You - well, they certainly did! TheatreTrain Isle of Wight boldly took on the "Young @ Part" version of the popular West End musical at Shanklin Theatre over the past few days. There were two casts, so it depended on what day you went as to who you saw, and the County Press watched the Champion cast on Saturday night. The professionalism of the show was apparent straightaway, with the lucky kids gifted a simple but effective set, spot-on lighting and good sound - and they were wearing very apt rock star themed costumes with lots of eyeliner spotted! The effort looked good from the off.
And what an amazing opportunity for the young stars to appear in such a fabulous setting as Shanklin Theatre - something they will never forget. They barely fitted on the stage at times yet they moved deftly and there was nothing amiss with the choreography or dancing - quite the feat! The fact there were two casts was even more impressive.
This is a theatre school that is clearly popular and attracts a good number of youngsters along. The story goes that 300 years in the future, Ga Ga Kids have to conform to and consume all the same culture, fashion and ideas..
. but rock music finds a way through. There are rebels and battles and love and freedom, all set to the music of Queen (and a cut-out of Freddie Mercury was in pride of place on stage).
