CINCINNATI — Alex Cora ’s Red Sox have gone back to wearing sports jackets when they travel to some road series. MLB players for all teams used to always travel in sports jackets and suits. But the dress code has become more relaxed in recent years.

“Teaching kids to become big leaguers,” Cora said the decision before Boston’s game against the Reds on Sunday . “Just conversations with veterans, we came to the conclusion that certain days we’re going to wear sports coats. And I think it’s more about teaching the young guys to become big leaguers.



And it’s been good. It’s been good. They’re doing a good job.

” The Red Sox wear comfortable clothes if they fly after a night game. They wear sports jackets if they fly after a day game. And so they will travel back to Boston dressed up after Sunday’s 1:40 p.

“Fashion is expressed in a different way. But I think just looking around and looking at some trends, I think sports coats are back. A lot of teams are kind of like going back to that.

A lot of sweatpants on the road. So we have to tighten it up a bit. And they like it.

They do like it. You see them now, veterans buying suits for guys.” The Red Sox will still enjoy their occasional themed road trips.
