It’s not rare for Rashmika Mandanna to create memorable fashion moments. Over time, the south star has cultivated a look that sets her apart from her contemporaries; filling her wardrobe with effortless lehengas as well as body-curving evening wear. But she’s often smitten by the simplicity and sophistication of saris.
Time and again, wears her identity and heritage with pride on her sleeves (quite literally), as she did recently with a cobalt blue silk sari. Worn for her best friend’s wedding in Kodagu in , her silk sari features gold zari ornamentation, rendering motifs such as circular butties and stars across the cobalt canvas along with a statement border. The classic six-yard staple is not only a nod to her Coorgi roots where she hails from, it also expresses the legacy of styling saris in unique ways in India.
Giving the Bengali and Gujarati drape a rain check, Mandanna leaned on the drape for this look, a stylish tribute to her hometown, Virajpet which is in the same Kodagu district. “Kodagu is where my heart and my history is at,” she wrote. A quick glance reveals the conventional sees the pallu tucked neatly over the shoulder while the pleats are tucked backwards.
A mythological fable outlines its origin: A sage named Agasthya’s wife Cauvery transformed herself into a river to serve people. In his attempt to stop her, he pushed the backwards. This is not the first time Mandanna championed a Coorgi sari.
She has been consistent with her choices: in May 20.
