It is graduation season and the end of another school year. Proud mothers are seen wearing smeared mascara as the tears fall. Students cheer as they can put down their homework folders and embrace the summer months.

The teachers are even more jubilant as they reflect on their performance for the year and well needed rest. Whether a person graduates college or is just moving up to high school, it is always a pivotal time for decisions. Choices are made during these moments that can impact us for a lifetime.

Many times chaplains, preachers, or just friends can share great advice to help guide others on their journeys. Often times we hear a reoccurring scripture that comes from Proverbs during graduation services to provide much needed wisdom. Whether we have been out of school for years or are a current student, Proverbs 3:5-6 is relevant to us in every stage of life: “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Based on the wording, God can be compared to a traffic director or air traffic controller. These folks play an important role to keep traffic in a smooth orderly fashion.

They can eliminate a lot of the chaos and even save lives when they do their jobs well. Similarly, the Lord wants to keep us on the right track and guide us to the right path. If we listen to him, we will have a lot less chaos in our lives and reach our heavenly destination.
