Rahul Dravid had a fairytale ending to life as Indian cricket team head coach after he led the Men in Blue to the T20 World Cup 2024 title last month. Dravid had earlier stated that this would be his last assignment with the Indian cricket team and the 51-year-old had even joked that he was now 'unemployed' while talking to reporters post Team India's T20 World Cup 2024 win. A latest report claims that Dravid is set to return to the Indian Premier League (IPL) with reigning champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) eyeing a move to rope in the former India head coach amid rumours of Gautam Gambhir joining the Indian team.
According to a report in News18 Bangla, several franchises have approached Rahul Dravid to have him on board ahead of the next season. Among the IPL teams is also KKR, a franchise reportedly on the lookout for personnel to replace Gautam Gambhir as mentor. Gambhir had returned to KKR just before the 2024 season and marked his return in some style, helping the Knight Riders win a third IPL title and that too, in dominant fashion.
The report also adds that the IPL franchises interested in acquiring Dravid's services, have also offered a lucrative contract, much more than what he used to earn as India cricket team head coach (Rs 12 crore). However, there has been nothing concrete so far in this regard and only time will tell if the 51-year-old returns to the IPL. Having someone of Dravid's expertise would be a massive boost for any IPL franchise.
