DAVENPORT — A new sushi and hibachi spot has found its home in Davenport. Kobe Sushi and Hibachi, 5242 Elmore Ave., held a soft opening on Wednesday.

Owner John Jiang joined forces with Sam Chen, owner of Dubuque's Ichiban Steakhouse and Sushi Bar, to create the sparkling new restaurant in the same shopping center as other notable openings this year, like the relocations of Disc Replay and Plato's Closet.

"Before he owned a restaurant, he used to be a hibachi chef, a kitchen chef, a sushi bar chef — he knows a lot of recipes, along with his own recipes too," Jiang said of Chen. "Ichiban in Dubuque is a very popular restaurant. It's got good business and good reviews from customers .

.. (We're hoping) a lot of customers from Dubuque come here too.

" There are other hibachi restaurants in the area, but Jiang says what sets Kobe apart is their sourcing of ingredients, their sauces, their recipes and their cooking styles. This photo shows the interior of Kobe Sushi and Hibachi, located at 5242 Elmore Ave. in Davenport.

While Chen has more expertise in restaurant ownership, Jiang is certainly no stranger to the industry. He came to the United States in 2007 and has been working in restaurants ever since. There is currently no set date for a grand opening or ribbon cutting as they work to assess their needs after the soft opening, but orders can be placed on their website, kobedaven.
