Pune: Nearly a month after an allegedly inebriated 17-year-old rammed his father’s Porsche Taycan into a bike, killing two software engineers in Kalyaninagar , Pune’s bustling nightlife has grown quieter. The footpaths that were once crowded with fashionably dressed youngsters and private vehicles are almost deserted. Valets, bouncers, and security guards say patrons are now opting for cabs, driven by increased police checkpoints on major roads leading to and from popular pubs .
Between Saturday midnight and 2 am on Sunday, TOI found that many pubs in Koregaon Park, Kalyaninagar, and Raja Bahadur Mill Road were either closed or limited to dine-in. Those serving alcohol were doing so strictly within permissible areas, avoiding open bars. Kaustubh Kumar from Koregaon Park and his two friends, who work in the IT industry, seemed disappointed.
“A month ago, I came to the mills area and returned because it was crowded. Today, there are hardly any customers,” Kaustubh said. “We then went to Koregaon Park, Kalyaninagar, and finally RBM Road.
None of the places have open drinking areas. Most did not serve alcohol, and those that did offered it in very limited settings and at very high prices.” One of his friends said, “The entire vibe is gone.
We do not drink and drive. But because of this incident, all options for enjoyment are closed. We could have drunk at home, but it is not the same as being in a pub.
” A group of friends shared their experience, mentioning that o.
