Princess Diana has long been lauded as a style icon. Her fashion and style moves often caught the eye of adoring fans and have inspired many even years beyond her death. One particular fashion choice the late princess made on a visit to Australia in the eighties made a big splash and now her former hairstylist has unpacked the reason behind the move.

The inventive headband complemented her stunning teal, one-shoulder ensemble but as it happens it wasn't a fashion-first decision. Princess Diana's former hairstylist Richard Dalton recalled the fashion moment at a Fotografiska New York panel, People reports .



"I think she had sunburn on her neck so we said. 'Let's make a headband of it,'" he said, per People . "I asked Evelyn, her dresser, for six inches of knicker elastic, [the kind used by] grannies.

The hairstylist met Diana when she was 17 years old and continued to work with her for 12 years. During his time working for Princess Diana, he also tended to the hairstyling needs of her two children Prince William and Pri.
