A familiar name will open another store in State College. Harpers is partnering with Scholar Hotels to open a store inside the historic Nittany Lion Inn at 200 W. Park Ave.

Harpers sells men’s and women’s apparel — from suits and sports shirts to dresses and jewelry as well as high-end Penn State apparel and accessories. “The new Harpers will cater to visitors seeking unique Penn State pieces and classic fashions as well as exclusive Nittany Lion Inn branded apparel including hats, polos, and quarter zips,” the companies said in a news release. Harpers has been in business since 1926 and has a multi-level store on College Avenue in State College.

“We are proud to be part of the revitalized Nittany Lion Inn,” Brian Cohen, third-generation owner of Harpers, said in the news release. “It feels like a natural partnership.” Scholar Hotels announced earlier this year that the Nittany Lion Inn will reopen on Sept.

2. Reservations opened on March 4. The inn has not operated as a hotel since 2020, because Penn State was using it for student housing and classroom space.

In 2022, the Scholar Hotel Group acquired the Nittany Lion Inn and the Penn Stater Hotel and Conference Center from Penn State University. Since then, the hotel has undergone extensive renovations. The Nittany Lion Inn opened in 1931.
