BENNINGTON — The Mount Anthony softball team punched its ticket to the Division I semifinals Thursday afternoon with its 7-0 victory over rival Burr and Burton Bulldogs. Superb defense and strong pitching from Abby Foster inside the circle powered the Patriots past the Bulldogs. “You know, our kids have really great gloves, really strong defense out here all year long and we’re confident in them,” Stated MAU Coach Brooke Remington, “Our pitchers are confident and brought their game today.

” Foster recorded 12 strikeouts, pitching a complete game shutout and limited the BBA bats to five hits. Foster got off to a great start, fanning the first two batters she faced. She closed the inning forcing BBA’s three-hole hitter into a lineout caught by Kyra Stratton.



Taeya Guetti started the MAU offense in the bottom half of the inning, drawing a walk, swiping second and taking third on an error. A single off the bat of fellow senior Mia Paligo drove her home, giving the Patriots the early 1-0 lead. Foster was particularly dominant early,retiring the BBA bats in order in both the second and third.

She recorded four of her dozen strikeouts during that stretch, and her defense backed her up with a pair of putouts. MAU added to its lead in the third, pushing across a couple runs. Emilee George began the stretch with a walk.

Her sister, Allee, put her in scoring position with a single to left. Foster provided herself a bit of insurance, crushing a ball to deep left that plated .
