Heartbroken parents have been left with a "gaping hole" in their lives after losing their "incredible child" within days of being diagnosed with constipation. Annabel Greenhalgh, 11, was rushed to A&E at Warwick Hospital with complaints of pain in her abdomen at the end of December 2022 but was discharged and sent home after being told she had a simple case of constipation. But the next morning, her dad Craig found his beloved daughter unresponsive at their home in Warwick and called 999.
Despite the best efforts of paramedics, she couldn't be resuscitated and was pronounced dead at the scene. Her death came just weeks after she started Year Seven at Alcester Grammar School. The loss was mourned at the school and the wider community.
An inquest into the popular youngster's death is set to start tomorrow at Coventry Coroner's Court. Ahead of the hearing, Craig and his wife Josie are speaking of Annabel's death and the "gaping hole" the loss has left in their lives. "Annabel was an incredible child and loved by all who met her," Josie, 45, told CoventryLive .
"She was gentle, phenomenally bright, creative, fun and always inclusive of everyone. She absolutely loved her music, her fashion, her art, her friends, and her beloved cat Reuben. She was our greatest gift and brought so much love, joy and happiness to our lives.
Since losing her, much of our days have been filled with distress, emptiness and sorrow.” Her parents hope the inquest will finally, after 18 months, provide t.
