Golfing influencer Paige Spiranac has told fans to lay off Rory McIlroy after he was seen leaving the US Open immediately after seeing Bryson DeChambeau beat him to the title in heartbreaking fashion. McIlroy had a two-shot lead on the back nine after putting in another terrific round on Sunday, playing as well as he has in years throughout the weekend. But the Northern Irishman would miss two short-putts on the 15th and 16th, including a two-foot shot to bring DeChambeau right back into contention.

McIlroy then made another costly error, when he chose to drive on the 18th hole, doing so for the first time in the weekend, which missed left and put him in a tough position. McIlroy went on to save par, before DeChambeau birdied the hole for the win. McIlroy had finished before DeChambeau, and was seen watching on a television in a backroom, before then being seen immediately leaving the premises after realizing he'd lost - a move which was criticized by many fans.
