The Norwalk boys soccer team advanced in postseason play on Monday night while the Warrior softball and baseball teams both picked up non-conference home wins. Boys Soccer wins 7-0 The Norwalk soccer boys recorded their most lopsided win of the season in the first round of tournament play, defeating Waverly-Shell Rock 7-0 in a Class 3A, Substate 6 semifinal. Eli Scavo scored a three-goal hat trick for the sixth-ranked Warriors while Teegan Kralik and Keilor Rodman both notched three assists.
Kralik, Jace Davis, Caden Endres and Grant Fletcher all scored one goal and Fletcher added an assist. Norwalk dominated the match, attempting 29 total shots and 16 shots on goal. Goalies Jacoby Robbins and Drew Newberg combined on the shutout, both making one save.
Now 10-8 overall, the Warriors will host Carlisle in a 3A substate final Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. Softball wins 2-1 The Norwalk softball team opened the season in walk-off fashion, defeating Ankeny 2-1 on Nyah Hulbert’s two-out, two-strike RBI single in the bottom of the seventh.
Streamed live on kniakrls.com (KNIA3), the game was largely a pitchers duel between Norwalk’s Carly Brewer and Ankeny’s Abby Rusher. Brewer took a one-hit shutout into the seventh, but the Hawks were able to tie the score on Ava Tomlinson’s RBI single.
The Warriors answered in the bottom of the seventh, getting a leadoff single from Addi Downe and a two-out walk from Grace Dehmer. Hulbert, who doubled and scored on Jaylynn Brandt’s single in th.
