ALVA, Okla. — Dr. Roger Hardaway, professor of history for the Northwestern Oklahoma State University Department of Social Sciences, contributed his knowledge to articles in The Denver Post and the New York-based business journal Fast Co.
Hardaway started teaching at Northwestern in 1990 and is the university’s current longest-serving faculty member. “It’s an honor to be considered enough of an expert on the history of the American West to be quoted in such widely read and highly regarded publications,” Hardaway said. “Every time the authors of these articles mention my name, they note that I am a professor at Northwestern — so, hopefully, my being quoted also reflects positively on the university.
” The Post article, “A life from the land: Ranchers of color, now and in the past, make marks in Colorado,” by Megan Ulu-Lani Boyanton, was published June 18, 2023, and focused on the growing number of non-Caucasian farmers and ranchers in Colorado. Hardaway discussed the West’s minority populations — including Native Americans and Hispanics — who inhabited the Rocky Mountain region before settlers from the United States began moving into the area in the 19th century. Boyanton’s article can be found behind a paywall on The Denver Post’s website, www.
