FLORIDA Panthers star Aleksander Barkov broke out a unique celebration during the Stanley Cup parade. The Panthers took home the Stanley Cup after a seven-game battle with the Edmonton Oilers. The Panthers celebration was full of drinking, and the players found new ways to down their beers.
Barkov got more creative than others, and grossed out fans with how he got his drink down. The star player took off a shoe, filled it with beer, and chugged from it. Barkov crushed his drink while his teammates lifted the Stanley Cup above his head.
The celebration got a huge cheer from the crowd, but some fans were more grossed out than anything. "That is just disgusting," one fan said. "Embarrassing parade," another fan said.
"Ewww.. gross," a third fan said.
"The 5 people celebrating is so embarassing man," a fourth fan said. The shoey celebration was something popularized by Australian Formula 1 driver Daniel Ricciardo. He was inspired by MotoGP driver Jack Miller, and drinks out of his shoe after a win.
"It basically comes from a few Aussies called the Mad Hueys," Ricciardo said. "They basically travel the world fishing and surfing and they like to drink a lot of beer - so that's where the shoey began. "Jack Miller knows some of the Huey guys so when he got his [MotoGP] win in Assen, I suspected he was going to do it.
"I just thought I'd keep the Australian tradition going. I saw Valentino [Rossi]'s now got in on the act. "It's just a bit of fun and everyone's enjoying it.
