Lt. Gov. Nancy Dahlstrom considers the state’s economy and high inflation as some of the most pressing needs as 2024 continues to unfold, right along with the need for natural resource development.

“We need to find a way to get our resources unleashed,” Dahlstrom said during a recent interview with the News-Miner. “Unfortunately, we have a president who has been trying to shut down Alaska.” Dahlstrom is one of three candidates running for Alaska’s sole House of Representative seat this November.



She faces Democrat incumbent Rep. Mary Peltola and fellow Republican businessman Nick Begich III. The lieutenant governor has resided in Alaska for 40 years, with 20 years of private experience and seven years as an Alaska House Representative from January 2003 to May 2010.

In 2010, former Gov. Sean Parnell appointed Dahlstrom to various state positions. Dahlstrom ran and was elected to the House in 2018 but declined to be seated after Gov.

Mike Dunleavy selected her as the Department of Corrections commissioner. She resigned her position in May 2002, just before Dunleavy announced her as his running mate for the November 2022 gubernatorial election. “I think all of that will be very beneficial in running for Congress,” Dahlstrom said.
