A carnival is set to be held in honour of the 20th birthday of a Glasgow teen who tragically passed away after complaining of stomach pain. Kaya-Imaani Chambers, 18, an engineering student from the Newlands area of the city, sadly lost her six-week battle with cancer on May 23 last year. Kaya had spent months visiting her GP due to stomach pain, rib pains, lumps in her neck and coughing fits.
She was eventually rushed to A&E in April after she began passing blood in her urine. Doctors initially believed she was suffering from kidney stones and prescribed antibiotics. However, just weeks later, she returned to the hospital where irregularities were found in her blood - tests later revealed these to be signs of cancer.
Kaya's mum Donna Sinclair, who earlier this year launched the Kaya Foundation to offer families the option of fast-track tests to bypass lengthy NHS waiting lists, is organising a special carnival to celebrate her daughter's would-be 20th birthday, reports GlasgowLive . The event, scheduled to take place at the Shed from 7pm on Sunday, June 16, will feature live music, a club night and a fashion show. Special guests will include Lauren Spiteri and David Whitelaw, along with Kya's dad appearing as DJ from 7pm.
Stephanie Heaney will be hosting the Catwalk, while Kim Robertson will be distributing prizes throughout the night. These include VIP tickets to see Young Fathers, Ocean Colour Scene and Geoff Ellis, as well as opportunities to witness Lamaya's first headlin.
