A carnival is to be held in honour of the 20th birthday of a teen who died after complaining of stomach pain. Kaya-Imaani Chambers from the Newlands area of the city, died after a six-week battle with cancer on May 23, last year. Glasgow Live how the 18-year-old engineering student had spent months going back and forth to the GP after complaining of pain in her stomach before developing rib pains, lumps in her neck as well as coughing fits.

Kaya was eventually rushed to in April after she started to pass blood in her urine and was given antibiotics with doctors believing she was suffering from kidney stones. Just weeks later she was back at hospital and was found to have irregularities in her blood - which was later discovered to be cancer following tests. Now mum Donna Sinclair, who earlier this year launched the Kaya Foundation to give families the option of fast-track tests to avoid lengthy NHS waiting lists, is planning a special carnival to celebrate her daughter on what would have been her 20th birthday.



The event which is due to be hosted at the Shed from 7pm on Sunday, June 16, will feature live music, a club night and a fashion show. Special guests will include Lauren Spiteri and David Whitelaw, along with Kya's dad appearing as DJ from 7pm. Stephanie Heaney will host the Catwalk and Kim Robertson will hand out prizes throughout the night which will include VIP tickets for Young Fathers, Ocean Colour Scene and Geoff Ellis.
