SIOUX FALLS — The Mitchell White 13-and-under teeners baseball team continued its successful summer, emerging from five games in three days at the Sioux Falls Invitational with a winning record. With the 3-2 tournament record, Mitchell White is now 19-7-1 entering July. Mitchell White opened the weekend by blanking Wayzata (Minn.
) Blue 6-0 on Friday. Noah Bennett recorded three hits and three RBIs, while Blake Rehorst, Matthew Peterson and Owen Borgan added two hits apiece. Bennett and Borgan also combined for a dominant outing on the mound, allowing two total hits and one walk in the shutout, with Bennett getting credit for the win.
Later on Friday, Mitchell White was defeated 11-1 by the Missouri River Naturals (Bismarck, N.D.).
The lone Saturday contest was another shutout for Mitchell White, which cruised to a 16-0 win in three innings over the Mayer (Minn.) Lutheran Knights. Mitchell White scored five runs in the first inning and 11 more in the second in the victory.
Michael Gomez notched three hits, four RBIs and three runs, and Gavin Mendenhall added four RBIs on two hits, including a home run. Mitchell amassed 17 hits as a team, with 11 different players contributing at least one base knock. Mason DeGeest nabbed the win on the mound, striking out five batters without allowing a hit.
