Miro’s Village is at the heart of an IRN-BRU ad hyping up the country’s optimism ahead of the European Championships in Germany. The soft drink firm, famous for its innuendo-laced adverts, filmed its minute-long cafe advert at the High Street business earlier this summer. Now, it is proving a hit as the Tartan Army travel to the Allianz Arena to take on the hosts – and three-time winners – in an 8pm kick-off.
Maciej Pagowski, manager of Miro’s Village, which has sister branches in Portobello and Edinburgh’s Stockbridge, confirmed that they had shut up shop for the advert to be filmed but it had proven worthwhile. He said: “Nothing like this has happened before – it was our first time. “It was about two months ago and it took one day.
“There were about 40 people from their crew, plus three actors, and we shut for the day. “It took a whole day for the one-minute video. “We could not reveal anything until the advert had gone live.
“We could not reveal what was going on but most people looked through the window and had a glimpse at what was going on. “Our regular customers asked and they noticed the advert on YouTube.” Steve Clarke’s side are playing in the tournament for the fourth time, after finishing second in qualifying Group A behind Spain.
And, in true Scottish fashion, fans are making their way to the continent full of ‘optimism’, with the advert stating: “Optimism – back in Scotland.” The advert shows two women sitting in the caf.
