Kodai Senga is making his second rehab appearance on Tuesday night in Syracuse. The Mets ‘ ace is expected to throw between 50-55 pitches for the Triple-A Syracuse Mets as he works his way back from a shoulder strain that has kept him sidelined all season. “I think his ability to repeat his delivery as a guy who knows himself better than everybody and he’s so meticulous about the movement of his body, but, I think it’s just getting his pitch count and then how he’s going to respond afterward [is what we’re looking for],” said Carlos Mendoza before Tuesday’s game against the Washington Nationals.
“Not only today, but the next couple of days especially as the volume is starting to get a little higher.” The right-hander tossed 2.2 innings during his first rehab appearance last Wednesday.
The Mets have an idea of what number they want the 31-year-old’s pitch count to get to before making his return to Flushing, however, the situation remains fluid with nothing set in stone. What appears to be definitive is how the Mets will handle their rotation schedule once their ace returns to the fold. “I think once Senga is back, our default stance would be a six-man [rotation],” said president of baseball operations David Stearns.
