The Mets played two games against the Dodgers on Tuesday and lost each one in a particularly deflating fashion, and as a result, their record on the season is now 22-32. In the first game of the straight doubleheader, the Mets led the vast majority of the way, coughed up the lead in the late innings, went to extras, and—as has often been the case this year—gave up several runs in the top of the tenth before failing to score even the free runner in the bottom. They lost that one 5-2 in the end, wasting an excellent start from Tylor Megill in the process.
In the nightcap, the Mets simply failed to score. Jose Quintana pitched reasonably well, putting up exactly a quality start with three earned runs allowed in six innings of work. But the Mets managed just three hits, looking every bit the defeated team that had let a very winnable game slip away in the first part of the doubleheader.
