Members-only Singapore-based SBTG and Limited Edt have unveiled the latest chapter of their collaborative “Monsoon Patrol” series, featuring the ASICS GEL-KAYANO 14 in two monochromatic colorways , alongside a complementary apparel capsule. In an exclusive interview with Hypebeast, SBTG’s Mark Ong , aka Mr.
Sabotage” revealed a closer look at the collection and design inspiration behind the concept. Ong shared that the Monsoon Patrol series was inspired by the tropical weather of Southeast Asia and is a concept he and the founder of Limited Edt, Mandeep Chopra, came up with a few years ago. Notably, the series has always featured an ASICS silhouette, with the first two iterations including the GEL-LYTE III and now, for the first time, the GEL-KAYANO 14 — a pair both Ong and Chopra enjoy.
“From a design perspective, I always like to change the shoe a little. For this version, we added a pocket to the shroud and a rubber layer. It was challenging to communicate our vision relaying messages between the product team and factory but everyone came through in the end.
We are very happy with the result and proud of it.” Ong also shared that further inspiration was derived from an old skate shoe he used to own that featured a stash pocket. “I remember liking it a lot and thought that we could all use it to stash a spare key, some cash, or something you never know you gonna need.
