Convicted rapist Peter Nygard is in danger of losing his second lawyer – this time, just weeks before his sentencing hearing is set to begin. During a court appearance before Superior Court Justice Robert Goldstein, defence lawyer Megan Savard looked shaken as she advised the judge that she’ll likely bring an application to withdraw from the case for “ethical reasons.” This came shortly after the lawyer met briefly over zoom with the former fashion mogul to discuss what was supposed to be an application filed before the judge to appear virtually – and not in person – when his sentencing begins June 25.

When they returned, Savard advised cryptically that she’s thinking of quitting the case. “I cannot help the court further today,” she said. Nygard appeared from his hospital bed at the Toronto South Detention Centre and complained that he’s provided Savard with factual information about his health, how he’s bedridden 22 hours a day and it would be dangerous for him to appear in person but “she’s refusing to put it in” her application to appear by zoom at his sentencing.

Goldstein interrupted Nygard and told him Savard is considered a top-rate, well-respected lawyer who knows what she’s doing. “Are you firing her?” he asked. “That’s what I really need to know.

” Nygard admitted firing his lawyer at this stage would leave him in a terrible position. Last fall, a Toronto jury found Nygard guilty of four counts of sexual assault after his accu.
