Lynda and Campbell Sangster recently marked their golden wedding anniversary at a lovely celebration with friends and family. The couple met on a plane back in 1972 and five decades after they tied the knot, their love for each other is still soaring. Lynda, 87, said: "I can't believe it's been 50 years.
"We've had no big rows or anything and have had a very happy time together." The lovebirds met when they were flying to Austria as part of two separate 'singles holiday' groups. Campbell, 89, said: "We were queueing in two different groups at the airport.
"I got on the plane and sat down and then I saw her going into her seat two seats in front of me. "I thought 'she's for me'." The couple got to talking after we got off the plane and after two years of courtship, married at Newark Church in Port Glasgow in 1974.
They lived in Port Glasgow for many years then moved to Skelmorlie later in life, and have been at Kincaid House in Greenock for less than one year. Lynda and Campbell had two daughters, Elizabeth and Evelyn, and now have grandchildren Andrew, Brianna, and Matthew. In her working life, Lynda ran a ladies fashion business in Colchester in Essex from her base in Port Glasgow.
Campbell was a ship's draughtsman in Lithgows and then worked in cost engineering. He played the saxophone and clarinet and played in a several bands across Inverclyde and beyond. The Sangsters loved going to Troon and Ayr for day trips.
