If the Los Angeles Dodgers were seeking a compelling finish to their chaotic first half, they didn’t get one. Limping into the All-Star break by losing six of their last seven games — the last two in brutal fashion — isn’t anything to generate merry feelings. Then again, the issues that plagued this roster go beyond a bad series or two.

And not all of the problems will be solved by the time the Dodgers return to action Friday against the Boston Red Sox . Advertisement There will be plenty to watch for in the second half, especially in the next two weeks. Who do they target at the trade deadline? Tarik Skubal would solve just about every contender’s needs. The Detroit Tigers right-hander is a certified top-shelf starting pitcher with club control remaining to boot. Garrett Crochet of the Chicago White Sox has club control remaining, too, even if the left-hander comes with concerns about his potential workload this fall.

Trading for Luis Robert Jr. or Randy Arozarena would serve as an offensive upgrade to an outfield that desperately needs it with Teoscar Hernández the most consistent producer against both right- and left-handed pitching. There isn’t much out there in terms of quality middle-infield options (outside of someone like the Los Angeles Angels’ Luis Rengifo , who the Dodgers already tried trading for once).
